Victoria Police are searching for Australian actor Orpheus Pledger after a warrant was issued for his arrest on Wednesday. 

Pledger faced the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with four assault offences.

He was granted bail and was to be transported to hospital for review and treatment pursuant to an in-patient assessment order.

The actor was ordered to return to court yesterday but failed to turn up, prompting magistrate Justin Foster to issue a warrant for his arrest.

"The 30-year-old is wanted on warrant in relation for failing to appear for an assault-related matter," police said in a statement.

Pledger starred in the popular soap opera Neighbours in 2011 before joining the cast of Home and Away in 2016 where he played the fictional character Mason Morgan for three years.

He is also known for his work in TV shows Silversun and CrashBurn earlier in his career.

Police said he is known to frequent Melbourne's inner-city suburb of Northcote and the surrounding areas.
