It’s the first time since Super Rugby’s inaugural season in 1996 that the Crusaders have lost eight games in a campaign.

The Reds led 14-0 with tries through Fraser McReight and Tim Ryan inside 30 minutes.

The Crusaders fought back to tie the game at 21-21 after halftime, but the Reds extended the lead again later in the half, and the Crusaders fell short in their comeback effort.

Captain Scott Barrett was forced from the field early in the first half, with commentary reporting it was due to a back injury.
