Team USA gets a tough win vs. Montenegro in FIBA World Cup

Anthony Edwards scored a team-high 17 points for Team USA in a second-round win against Montenegro.

Team USA has faced the fiercest resistance in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 so far.

Despite that, Steve Kerr's team edged out Montenegro 85-73 and stays undefeated in the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record. 

The teams were separated by only five points (71-66) with four minutes to go, but Austin Reaves, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Anthony Edwards scored crucial consecutive baskets to lay the foundations for the W (79-69).

Team USA knocked down just 5 three-pointers in 19 attempts, made 20 out of 30 free throws, and turned the ball over 12 times.

Anthony Edwards led the route for the U.S. squad, posting 17 points and 3 rebounds over 27 minutes.

Austin Reaves (12), Jaren Jackson Jr. (11), Tyrese Haliburton (10), and Mikal Bridges (10) were other Team USA players who scored in double digits.

Nikola Vucevic dominated for Montenegro. The NBA center scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.
