KFC has apologised to fans after a recruitment advert sparked hope of a new restaurant in Montrose.

The fast food giant appeared to be lining up a move into the Angus town after advertising for a full-time store manager with a £36,000 salary.

But in a blow to chicken fans, KFC admitted to The Courier the job listing was “created in error” and there are “no current plans to open a new restaurant”.

The listing is still live on the chain’s recruitment website.

KFC already has two Angus locations – Orchard Business Park in Forfar and Westway Retail Park in Arbroath.

KFC apologises – but Colonel ‘always on the lookout for new sites’

A KFC spokesperson said: “Sorry KFC fans of Montrose, this job listing was created in error and there are no current plans to open a new restaurant in your area.

“But the Colonel is always on the lookout for new sites so who knows what the future holds!”

Earlier this month, the former Cheeky Monkeys soft play centre in Montrose reopened under a new brand name.

Elsewhere in Angus, plans have been lodged for a new Monifieth McDonald’s after a devastating blaze destroyed the previous building.
