CARTER COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - Students in Carter County will see extra law enforcement in and around their schools on Monday, April 29.

According to Facebook posts from Van Buren R-1 Schools and East Carter County School District, the area received a swatting call indicating a possible threat to schools in the area.

Van Buren Schools Superintendent Amy Jackson said local and county law enforcement and the Missouri State Highway Patrol are investigating the call.

In a letter posted on the East Carter County School District Facebook page, MSHP stated the call was made to a local business on Friday around 4 p.m. falsely reporting a potential threat to an unspecific school in the area.

MSHP said investigators determined the threat lacked credibility and identified the call as a swatting incident.

Investigators are working to trace where the call came from and who made it.

Out of an abundance of caution, both school districts in Carter County will have additional officers in and around the schools on Monday.
