Nominations open for 2023 Sport Volunteer of the Year Award!

Presented by Volunteering Australia, the award recognises volunteers who have made an outstanding contribution to sporting organisations, clubs, teams or programs over the past year.

Nominations are now open for the 2023 Sport Volunteer of the Year Award!

Presented by Volunteering Australia, the award recognises volunteers who have made an outstanding contribution to sporting organisations, clubs, teams or programs over the past year. The award is part of the Australian Sports Commission’s (ASC) dedication to championing the role of volunteers and it is a key component of the Sport Volunteer Coalition and Action Plan.

This is the second year the prestigious award is presented at the annual AIS Sport Performance Awards (ASPAs). Again, our best volunteers with take pride of place alongside Australia's best high-performance athletes.

Inaugural recipient, Nicole Williams from the Brighton Cricket Club in Adelaide took out last year’s honours for her outstanding contribution to her sport and her work raising awareness about the role of volunteers.

“It was quite a challenge to come in and change people’s perceptions around community sport. It’s about identifying some key people within your community and asking them to step up and help out,” Nicole said when receiving her award.

“I love being out at that grassroots level and seeing all the kids running around and the parents enjoying themselves. I encourage people to use the skills and experience they’ve got for helping others to do great things at different sporting clubs.”

The following organisations are eligible to nominate one outstanding volunteer:

State Sporting Organisations and local sporting clubs affiliated with organisations in the ASC National Sports Directory.National Sporting Organisations and National Sporting Organisations for People with Disability.Community Sport Australia Sports Federations.National Institute Network and Games Partners.
