Prince William is ‘staying positive’ for the Princess of Wales and their children, insiders have claimed today.

The Prince of Wales will today begin a two day visit to Cornwall in his first overnight trip away from Kate Middleton amidst her cancer battle. The Prince of Wales has seen his diary modified to fit around his family life in the last few months as he rallies to support Kate Middleton during her treatment. However, it has now been announced he will spend a night away from the Princess this week as he is due to spend Thursday and Friday in Cornwall.

Now, sources have offered an insight into how the Prince and Princess have been coping during her recovery period. Speaking to People magazine, an unnamed insider said, ‘William is prioritising giving her all the time she needs to get better and the support, particularly to the children.’ According to sources, the Prince is ‘staying positive’ for his family, and relying on the ‘nuclear family unit’ of Kate's supportive family; Carole, Michael, Pippa and James.

Insiders went on to say Prince William has also developed a close bond with his father, who is also undergoing his own battle with cancer.

The Princess of Wales, 42, is known to be extremely close with her parents, Michael and Carole, as well as her younger siblings, Pippa and James. The family will no doubt be giving the Princess both comfort and stability as she faces her cancer battle.

Official updates to the Princess' health have been sparse since she announced she was receiving treatment for cancer in March. At the time, she asked the public for ‘some time, space and privacy’ while she completed the course of chemotherapy. Kate has since retreated from the spotlight but the father-of-three has spoken several times about Kate during his past few public engagements, assuring the nation he is ‘looking after’ the Princess.

Royal commentator and biographer Duncan Larcombe previously told the Mirror that Carole and Michael have been putting a ‘safety blanket’ over George, Charlotte and Louis, as well as offering William, whom they consider an ‘adopted son’ support. The couple are said to be ‘desperately upset’ about Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis but have been ‘rallying’ to support her and the Prince during this time.

He said, ‘They’ll have rallied around her, especially her young family. Carole and Michael will have essentially thrown a safety blanket around the young children to help protect them. In times like this for Kate, it is hugely important. It is crucial the children are looked after carefully.’

Kate’s siblings have also shown themselves to be supportive of the Princess. Shortly after she announced her cancer diagnosis to the world on Friday, her brother James released a short statement on Instagram.

In the post, he shared a love heart and mountain emoji, before writing, ‘Over the years, we have climbed many mountains together. As a family, we will climb this one with you too.’

Alongside his poignant words, James, a father-of-one, shared a previously unseen childhood photograph of himself alongside the Princess.

During his visit to Cornwall, William will pay a visit to the site in Nansledan where the Duchy of Cornwall’s first-ever innovative housing project to help address homelessness will be built. On Friday, he will make his first official visit to the Isles of Scilly since becoming Duke of Cornwall in September 2022. During his time on St. Mary’s, William will meet representatives from local businesses on the harbour front and pay a visit to St. Mary’s Medical Centre.

It is not yet known when the Princess will return to public duty alongside her husband. Insiders told The Telegraph this month the King’s decision to return to official engagements will have eased the pressure on Kate. The Princess would normally appear at a number of events over the summer months, including Wimbledon, Royal Ascot and Trooping the Colour. Kensington Palace has said the royal will return to official duties when she is cleared by doctors, with a spokesperson saying she ‘may be keen to attend events as and when she feels able to’ but ‘any initial public events will not necessarily signal a return to a regular public schedule’.
