Women's World Cup kicks off in New Zealand

More than 40,000 football fants are at Eden Park in Auckland New Zealand for the start of the 2023 Women's World Cup.

Over the next four weeks, 32 teams will compete across 64 matches at 10 venues across Australia and New Zealand. This morning, New Zealand take on Norway and Australia will face the Republic of Ireland.

Congestion points this morning

Traffic Wales has issued at 7.50am update on congestion points this morning.

They are:

A470 travelling southbound, Nantgarw to CorytonM4 travelling eastbound, iunction 29 Castleton to junction 27 High CrossA48M travelling Westbound, junction 29 Castleton to junction 29A St Mellons.

More arrests after ride-out in memory of teens

Twelve more people have been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving following a ride out event last month in memory of two teenagers who died in a crash in Ely, Cardiff. Kyrees Sullivan, 16, and 15-year-old Harvey Evans had been on an e-bike when the crash happened in Ely in May.

South Wales Police said the men aged 18 to 52 have been arrested in connection with the event. Read more here.

Aled Jones has £17,000 Rolex 'taken by machete-wielding robber'

Welsh singer Aled Jones is recovering after his £17,000 Rolex watch was taken during a terrifying daylight street attack near his London home.

The 52-year-old was with his 18-year-old Lucas when they were confronted by a machete-wielding robber.

Rail passengers facing further strikes

Rail passengers are being warned of disruption to services from today because of fresh industrial action by train drivers and other workers in long running disputes over pay, jobs and conditions.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) will strike on July 20, 22 and 29 while drivers in Aslef are banning overtime this week.

RMT members including station staff, train managers and catering staff will be involved in the action.

There is no strike in Wales but passengers are advised to check their travel arrangements in advance as the level of service will vary across the country.

Met Office forecast for Thursday

Sunny spells and scattered showers. Here is the full forecast for Wales today:

A day of bright or sunny spells and some showers. Showers most frequent during the early afternoon before easing later, with many places remaining dry throughout. Light winds, so feeling pleasant enough in the sunnier moments. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

A largely fine evening with some late sunny spells. Cloud building from the north overnight with an isolated shower possible. Feeling fresh, particularly where skies remain clearest. Minimum temperature 9 °C.
