First-half goals from All Whites Kosta Barbarouses and Tim Payne inspired the Wellington Phoenix to a 3-0 win against Macarthur in the last game of the regular men’s A-League season.
The win was sealed with a penalty from substitute Oscar Zawada in stoppage time.
The match drew more than 15,000 fans to Sky Stadium and leaves the Phoenix top of the table, eagerly awaiting Central Coast Mariners’ final match of the season, against Adelaide United on Wednesday May 1.
For the Phoenix to stay top of the league, and to claim the Premiers Plate, the Mariners need to lose their final regular season fixture.
