When is Good Friday 2024? What is Good Friday?
Good Friday 2024 falls on Friday, March 29. The religious holiday, also known as Holy Friday, is observed by Christian and Catholic churches to honor the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The day kicks off Easter weekend, which celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and follows the 40-day period known as Lent; Easter falls on Sunday, March 31, this year.
It is not a federal holiday, but some businesses and institutions do close for Good Friday, including most public schools.
Is the post office open on Good Friday? Is there mail delivery on Good Friday?
Yes, the U.S. Postal Service and all USPS post offices will be open regular hours on Friday, March 29. Mail will be delivered as usual.
According to USA Today, UPS and FedEx will also operate regularly on Friday, with pickup and delivery services at all locations.
What about banks, stores, libraries, government offices, and the stock market?
Most banks, government offices, libraries and stores are open regular hours on Good Friday; some may close on Easter if they’re typically closed on Sundays. All major U.S. stock markets will be closed Friday in observance of Good Friday.
Major retailers and grocery stores, including Walmart, Target and Wegmans, are open regular hours on both Good Friday and Easter.
