Coronation Street viewers are convinced they've figured out a Joel Deering twist on the ITV soap as they fear Dee-Dee Bailey could face more heartbreak after her father Ed Bailey's latest drama.
On Friday night, Ed finally told the truth to his family about his gambling addiction, leaving his family reeling from the discovery. Ed's son Michael was left furious while daughter Dee-Dee was hurt to learn that both Joel and Ronnie knew about Ed's gambling without telling her. After a heart-to-heart with Todd, Ed revealed he was hiding even more information from his family.
Later in the episode, Ed decided to come clean, revealing to his family that just the night before he had emptied the business account and lost all the funds in a casino, causing a huge divide in the family. The episode ended with Dee-Dee wanting to help her father as they came up with a plan together while Michael wanted nothing to do with his dad.
However, soap watchers have been left worried over Joel hiding Ed's gambling from his girlfriend Dee-Dee and have feared he could be hiding even more information. And with villain Damon Hay returning to the cobbles on Monday night, some viewers think Joel might be linked to him.
Taking to Twitter, now X, one person said: "With this whole Ed/Ronnie thing I reckon Joel (DeeDee's fella) is gonna be related to Damon or even Geoff or someone and they get out of debt in a dodgy deal #Corrie". Another person said: "I think Dee Dee’s boyfriend also has a gambling problem … one or two little hints have been dropped", a different account put: "I don’t trust him" while another viewer said: "He's up to no good."
Elsewhere, one person said: "I've not trusted him from day 1", a different account put: "I agree defo something going on there", another viewer speculated: "He seems to be hiding something", a different soap watcher said: "Yes, I think there’s something he’s hiding. I’ve thought this for a while now" while another fan added: "Theres something about him don't know what but don't really trust him."
Duty solicitor Joel, played by Hollyoaks star Calum Lill, was introduced on the cobbles in September as a love interest for Dee-Dee. At the time, Joel invited Dee-Dee out for a drink, explaining that he needed to pick her brain about US law. Dee-Dee was left chuffed as she got her books out but things soon turned awkward when a disappointed Joel realised that Dee-Dee didn't see it as a date. However, after realising her blunder, the two have been inseparable since.
