UFC 300 live blog: Weili Zhang vs. Yan Xiaonan
This is the UFC 300 live blog for Weili Zhang vs. Yan Xiaonan, the strawweight title fight this Saturday in Las Vegas.
A two-time strawweight champion, Zhang is currently the No. 1 pound-for-pound female fighter in the world according to the MMA Fighting Global Rankings. Originally winning the title with a dominant performance against Jessica Andrade, Zhang lost the belt to Rose Namajunas just one fight later. She then reclaimed the belt by dominating Carla Esparza at UFC 281 and successfully defended the title against Amanda Lemos last August. Now Zhang hopes to do something she never has before, successfully defend her title twice.
The other half of the first China vs. China title fight in UFC history, Yan has been the forgotten woman at 115 pounds for some time. That all came to an end when she destroyed Jessica Andrade at UFC 288, knocking her out in the first round and punching her ticket to a UFC title fight. Now Yan hopes to get out from the shadow of Weili and establish herself as the greatest Chinese fighter in MMA history.
