First 'Wicked' movie trailer debuts during Super Bowl
(CNN) – This is going to be “popular.”
The trailer for the highly anticipated two-part “Wicked” movie made its debut during the Super Bowl.
It gives audiences a look at the movie’s stars: Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba.
The movie also stars Jeff Goldblum, Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, and Bowen Yang.
The movie is an adaptation of the Broadway musical “Wicked,” which is a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz.”
It tells an alternate version of events in Oz before Dorothy’s arrival and explores the story of how Elphaba becomes the Wicked Witch of the West as she navigates being framed by the Wizard.
“Wicked” is among the most commercially successful musicals of all time, making nearly $15 million at the Broadway box office last year alone.
Part one of the “Wicked” movie hits theaters Nov. 27. Part two follows in late 2025.
