West Indies held off New Zealand to win their ICC T20 World Cup match by 13 runs on Wednesday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy and clinch qualification for the Super Eight stage of the tournament.

Sherfane Rutherford's brilliant half-century and a four-wicket haul by Alzarri Joseph were instrumental in taking the West Indies to victory.

- West Indies won back-to-back men's T20I wins against New Zealand for only the second time in the history of the format. It is also the first time the West Indies have done so since 2012.

- West Indies are on a seven-match winning streak in T20I matches at home, their best run in the history of the format.

- West Indies have successfully defended each of their last five totals in the men's T20I when they've batted first on the day. This equals their longest winning streak when batting first in the format

- Alzarri Joseph (4/20) became the first West Indies player to take multiple hauls of four or more wickets at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. It was the Antiguan's third haul of four-plus wickets in the tournament, the joint-most of any player for the West Indies in the format.

- West Indies spinners have taken 12 wickets from their three matches at the 2024 tournament (Akeal Hosein - 7, Gudakesh Motie - 6). A total of 10 New Zealand batters have been dismissed by spin in their two games in the tournament.

- Nicholas Pooran (49) is only one dismissal away from becoming the second West Indies wicketkeeper to record 50 dismissals as a wicketkeeper on the day. Denesh Ramdin holds the West Indies record with 63 dismissals. Pooran has taken four catches in three matches at the 2024 tournament.

- Sherfane Rutherford's 68 off 39 balls is the second-best innings by a batter coming in at six or lower in ICC Men's T20 World Cup history. Cameron White of Australia has the highest score with 85 not out against Sri Lanka in 2010

- Devon Conway's three catches against the West Indies is the joint-most of any New Zealand in a single game at the ICC T20 Men's World Cup. Conway is the third Black Caps wicketkeeper to take three catches in a match at the tournament. The others to do so are Brendon McCullum against South Africa in 2007 and Luke Ronchi versus Sri Lanka in 2014.
