Environment Canada has downgraded tornado warnings for parts of southern Alberta as severe thunderstorms move east across the province.

Earlier on Sunday night, a tornado warning had been issued for the M.D. of Willow Creek near Nanton and Vulcan County.

The weather agency continues to track severe thunderstorms that are expected to bring damaging winds, large hail and intense rainfall.

Officials recommend taking cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

A thunderstorm warning for Calgary has now ended. Environment Canada says northeast parts of Calgary would be affected by the storm, which has been devastated by hail in the past.
