In his return to Golden State, Klay Thompson scored 22 points on 6-12 shooting from deep. He even poured in eight points in the fourth quarter. But it was not enough to overcome a classic Curry performance in the final minutes. Curry scored the Warriors last 12 points to close things out, finishing with 37 points on 5-12 shooting from deep.

Luka Dončić had a superb game himself, scoring 31 points to go with eight rebounds, six assists and three steals. Kyrie Irving also added 21 points and six assists.

Klay reflects on battle with Steph

It was a weird feeling for Thompson and his team to be on the receiving end of a Stephen Curry scoring rampage.

Prior to the game, Thompson mentioned that he was locked in on his new squad and had not talked to his former teammates leading up to the matchup.

From the opening tip, Draymond Green was engaged and active for Golden State. He stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks in 31 minutes.

Green was +18 overall and even made two three-pointers.

Steve Kerr postgame: "We went over our pregame scout and the matchups. It was almost surreal saying, 'Steph, you got Klay.' Steph smiled."

Lost in the theatrics of Curry and the homecoming of Thompson was another masterful game from Luka Doncic.

He finished with 31 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals in 41 minutes. He shot 13-27 from the field overall but an abysmal 2-10 from deep.

Doncic had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds but was unable to knock down a heavily contested three.

Warriors win a thriller!

Luka Dončić fires a three-pointer for the tie... but it clanks off the backboard. Golden State gets the board and dribbles out the clock.

Steph Curry scored the last 12 points for Golden State as the Warriors escape with a win.

Man, I felt like I was back in Paris at the gold medal game against France - or the semifinal game against Serbia - watching Steph Curry get that hyped during a game after that three. And to watch him celebrate with Buddy Hield, who is a Klay Thompson replacement of sorts, while Thompson watched from the opposite bench was surreal, to say the least.

It's been a long time since I can remember Steph Curry being this hyped for a Warriors game. That was one loud scream after his dagger 3 over Dereck Lively II and patented night-night celebration.

Steph Curry dagger?

Q4 26.4 Mavericks 114, Warriors 118

OH MY... Steph Curry mixes Dereck Lively and knocks down a three to give the Warriors a four-point lead in the final moments.

Big show of emotion afterwards too from Curry. He's up to 35 points now.

Klay misses go-ahead three

Man, how many times will the memory of that missed 3 play in Klay Thompson's mind over the next 24 hours. He had the look, but missed it.

The Mavericks keep trying to get Steph Curry to switch onto Luka Dončić or Kyrie Irving, and Curry keeps refusing. That's fueled this Warriors comeback.
