The U.S. Open is headed west, as the Los Angeles Country Club is set to host its first major championship. Could there be a first-time major champion to go along with it?
A pair of former U.S. Open champions have already won a major this year, with Jon Rahm taking the Masters green jacket and Brooks Koepka coming out on top at the PGA Championship. This event, on the other hand, has served as a launching pad for players over the last three years, with Bryson DeChambeau (2020), Rahm (2021), and Matt Fitzpatrick (2022) all winning their first major title at the U.S. Open.
The four betting favorites entering Thursday all have major championships under their belt, but Viktor Hovland will be a name to watch after his Memorial Tournament win and second-place finish at the PGA Championship
Thursday's first-round action will also start under the cloud of the recent merger agreement between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. Weeks after Koepka became the first active LIV golfer to win a major, there are more questions than answers regarding how and why the rival tours came together to strike a deal.

4:59 p.m. — There's a serious gap between the two leaders and the rest of the field, but a surprise name just cut into it: Paul Barjon. The French-born golfer is 4-under through 17 holes.
4:42 p.m. — You can't ask for much better of a start than Wyndham Clark, who eagles the first hole. 2-under after one hole? Impressive.
4:39 p.m. — Schauffle does make history along with Fowler, finishing with a 62. He's hoping to enter Friday with a share of the lead alongside Fowler, and it'll take a record-breaking performance for that not to be reality.
4:26 p.m. — Disappointing end to an otherwise strong day for Scottie Scheffler, who bogeys the 18th hole and drops five strokes back of the lead. That was his first bogey since the opening hole.
4:25 p.m. — Make room, Rickie. Xander Schauffele with a birdie to join in on Fowler's history-making day by moving one hole away from a 62. Schauffele and Fowler sit atop the leaderboard at 8-under, and it'll be tough for anyone to catch them today.

What channel is the U.S. Open on today? Date: Thursday, June 15 TV channel: NBC, USA Network Live stream: Peacock, Fubo, NBC Sports App, USopen.comNBC will broadcast the 2023 U.S. Open, with NBC and USA Network hosting the main broadcast on Thursday.
