Tom Aspinall craving UFC undisputed showdown with champion ...
The 31-year-old gave his assessment regarding the ramifications of Jones’ next move, and is ready to seize an opportunity to take the American's crown.
“It depends on what Jones wants do in terms of the division,” Aspinall told TNT Sports. “If he wants to stay at heavyweight, there's no doubt he has to fight me next.
“If he wants to have some 'fun' match-ups, as he says, then fair enough, he can go down to light heavyweight, but he has to give up the heavyweight title.
“Other top guys need to be contested for the heavyweight title - i.e. me, the winner from Cyril Gane and [Alexander] Volkov.
“I don't know how that's going to look going forward, but I'll tell you a bit of exclusive news here on TNT Sports: I was getting a few nods and winks off the bosses when Jon Jones was talking about the next fight.
“That means a lot to me and not only that, I've spoken to the UFC brass this week and both guys are talking about this being the biggest heavyweight fight in UFC history - absolutely no doubt about it.
“Potentially one of the biggest fights in UFC history: this is what the people want to see, and we've got to give it to them.”
The heavyweight fighter ruled out the possibility of defending the UFC interim heavyweight title which he won by beating Sergi Pavlovich last November, and admits he was reluctant to take part in the original fight.
“I've told the UFC and made it pretty clear, 'listen, I ain't fighting for the UFC interim title again,'” he explained.
“I'm not doing that again. In all honesty, I didn't want to do it the first time.
“The two reasons I wanted to do it were because I wanted to avenge my loss that I got in the UFC - which was from an injury - and it was in my home city of Manchester.
“But I don't want to be groundbreaking for defending interim titles, they are not the records I want to break.
“I want to be UFC undisputed heavyweight champion of the world and from that performance tonight [Jones’ v Miocic], I know first-hand that I could do it.”
Aspinall also revealed what qualities he would bring which Miocic lacked in order to dethrone Jones as reigning champion.
When speaking about Jones, he added: “He’s an absolute box of tricks - you don't know what's coming from him.
“To beat Jon Jones, you need to have fast eyes, fast reactions, fast reflexes and Stipe Miocic, at 42 years old, doesn't really have that.
“So, Jon's mixing it up, doing the oblique kicks, doing the back spinning kicks to the body, doing the head kicks, doing the calf kicks, doing the standard thigh kick, the side kick to the body.
“He’s mixing it with boxing and wrestling, whereas Stipe just doesn't have the reflexes anymore, which a 31-year-old, almost-in-their-prime fighter has.”
