A 6-year-old girl died in a house fire on Staten Island on Monday evening, the authorities said.
Police and firefighters responded to the blaze in a two-story building in the northern part of the New York City borough after receiving 911 calls about a residential fire just before 5:40 p.m., Detective Arthur Tsui, a spokesman for the New York Police Department, said Monday.
The 6-year-old was transported to Richmond University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, Detective Tsui said. The authorities did not provide more information about the cause of the fire or whether anyone else was inside the home at the time.
The fire was under control by 6:30 p.m., according to the New York City Fire Department. The investigation is continuing, it said.
