Music superstar The Weeknd has postponed his New Zealand shows set for Eden Park next month.

The Canadian R&B singer was set to play two shows at Auckland's Eden Park on 7 and 8 December.

He has postponed his entire New Zealand and Australia tour.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, we must reschedule the Australia/New Zealand tour," The Weeknd - the stage name of singer Abel Tesfaye - said in a statement released by promoter Live Nation.

"New dates will be announced next year and current tickets will be valid for the new shows. Refunds will be available for those unable to attend the new dates.

"Deeply disappointed but can't wait to be there with you!"

The concert promoter also apologised for the inconvenience.

"We understand fans will be disappointed, and Live Nation is focused on working with The Weeknd to secure a new tour schedule. We will make a further announcement as soon as possible."
