Tama Tonga celebrating after winning the NEVER Openweight Championship at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18

Former New Japan Pro-Wrestling star Tama Tonga is the newest member of a top WWE faction!

Earlier this year, Tonga announced that he would be leaving New Japan Pro-Wrestling after almost 14 years with the company. He competed in his final match for the promotion in late February and it was subsequently reported that he would be headed to WWE.

Following WrestleMania 40 this past weekend, Tonga stirred up speculation about his wrestling future when he posted a cryptic photo of a red rotary phone with his name above it to his X account.

During last night’s edition of SmackDown, Solo Sikoa ejected Jimmy Uso from The Bloodline following his loss to Jey Uso at WrestleMania. He wasn’t alone in the endeavour, however, as Uso was first blindsided by a hooded figure who was quickly revealed to be Tonga – the newest member of the faction.

The duo went on to brutalise Uso with a steel chair as a clearly dismayed Paul Heyman pleaded with Sikoa to stop, with their assault eventually coming to an end after Sikoa hit a running hip attack onto Uso who had a steel chair wrapped around his neck.

Why Did Tama Tonga Leave NJPW For WWE?

Following his NEVER Openweight Championship win at Wrestle Kingdom 18 this past January, Tama Tonga made the surprising announcement that he would be leaving New Japan when his contract expired.

As to why he was making the decision after more than a decade with the company, Tonga stated that he wanted to spend more time with his family and specifically stated that he didn’t want to be an absent father to his children like he had experienced with his father.
