After a record-breaking debut on Netflix, Squid Game, created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, became a global phenomenon that captivated millions with its brutal and mind-bending portrayal of desperation, survival, and human nature. With its shocking cliffhanger ending, fans were eagerly awaiting Season 2. Now, as Squid Game Season 2 releases, have a look at what viewers can expect from the much-anticipated next chapter of the deadly game.

Season 1 introduced us to Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), a down-on-his-luck man who, along with 455 other players, is lured into a deadly series of children’s games with a chance to win a massive cash prize of 456 billion won. The twist: if you lose a game, you die. As the tension rises and alliances shift, Gi-hun and the others uncover dark secrets about the mysterious game and its organisers, culminating in a dramatic finale where Gi-hun wins the money—but at a huge cost. The season ends with him vowing to take down those responsible for the games, setting the stage for Season 2.

New Cast and Characters

Season 2 is expanding on the series' already diverse character roster, introducing new players and significant additions to the core cast. While Lee Jung-jae returns as Gi-hun (Player 456), the stakes rise as new faces take center stage. Notably, Yim Si-wan, known for his roles in K-dramas like Run On and Summer Strike, joins the cast, along with Park Sung-hoon, Park Gyu-young, TOP, Kang Ha-neul, Lee Jin-wook, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-shim and Lee Seo-Hwan among others.

While the first season had Gong Yoo in almost a blink and miss part, the new season hints at an extended role of him as the recruiter. Possibly, one will be able to see his backstory in this season. Given that Netflix released a separate promo for Gong Yoo, this is possibly one of the biggest highlights of the upcoming season to watch out for.
