Field Hockey Wraps Up Home Slate Against Providence, VCU

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's field hockey team closes out the home portions of its 2024 schedule with a pair of games this weekend. The Hoyas host Providence on Friday in BIG EAST action before facing VCU on Senior Day on Saturday evening.   Links to video and live stats for both games can be found at www.GUHoyas.com.  

About the Hoyas Georgetown (3-10, 1-4 BIG EAST) dropped its lone game of last week 3-0 to No. 20 Temple. On the year, Sophie Towne leads the Hoyas with three goals and two assists for eight points while Sydney Yodh has two goals and three assists for seven points. Izzy Lee, Elena Perez Alejandro and Colleen Maloney each have two goals and an assist for five points while both Lily Jamison and Elena Leahy add a goal and two assists for four points. In goal, Ella Fahey has started 10 games this season, including the last three, and has a 3.02 goals-against average to go with 74 saves and a .712 save percentage. Scouting Providence Friday's game is slated for noon at the University of Maryland Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. The Friars are 6-8 on the season and 2-3 in the BIG EAST with league wins over Quinnipiac and then-No. 5 UConn. Ally DeCoste has six goals and an assist for 13 points while Bo Martina also has 13 points off of four goals and five assists to pace Providence. Asia Porter has played all but 15 minutes of the season for the Friars and has a 2.83 GAA with 57 saves and a .588 save percentage. Providence won last year's showdown 4-3 in Rhode Island. Georgetown's last win over the Friars came in 2011 with a 3-2 overtime victory in Providence. Scouting VCU Saturday's game is set for 5 p.m. and will serve as Senior Day for four Hoya seniors: Elena Leahy, Bailey Tietz, Sophie Towne and Emma van der Veen. The Rams are 9-5 on the year and are coming off a 7-0 win against Saint Louis and a 4-0 loss at No. 11 Duke last weekend. Morena Macera leads VCU with six goals and four assists for 16 points while Luisa Fasold adds six goals and three assists for 15 points. In goal, Emma Clements has started 11 games and has a 1.85 GAA with 51 saves and a .729 save percentage. Georgetown and VCU faced each other last season with the Rams winning 4-2 at home. The last win for the Hoyas against VCU came in 2021 with a 1-0 victory for the Blue & Gray in Richmond. Up Next
