Netherlands booked a spot in the European Championship quarter-finals with a dominant victory over Romania in Munich this morning.
After holding off an early Romanian assault in the round of 16 clash, Netherlands struck when Cody Gakpo fired the opener from outside the box in the 20th minute. The Dutch took control of the match once they had the lead missing several chances to double their lead before halftime.
Gakpo looked to have added a second in the 63rd minute only to be ruled offside by VAR but it was a brief respite for Romania. Gakpo set up Donyell Malen for their second goal after Romania failed to clear the ball, letting Gakpo play the ball a simple ball from right by the lefthand post.
Malen then scored a second in injury time to make it 3-0.
Netherlands will play the winner of Turkey-Austria in the quarter-finals as they look to reach the final four for the first since 2004.
