Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Jiuzhaigou Valley is Rissai Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve – a first Reserve property for China.
Situated in Sichuan Province on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau, the intimate 87-villa property draws from its location to inspire the experience; not only is each guest welcomed with a Zhaxi Dele Tibetan blessing ceremony, but they are assigned a personal “Nieba” host, designed to reflect the property’s commitment to cultural authenticity.
The resort, whose name translates as “village” in Tibetan, introduces several innovative hospitality concepts. These include sound therapy with traditional singing bowls, waterfall yoga sessions, and a unique children’s programme focused on indigenous culture. Young guests can also participate in activities ranging from treasure hunts and kite-flying to stargazing evenings.
US architectural firm WATG designed the property using traditional building forms and locally-sourced materials, while the late Indonesian designer Jaya Ibrahim created interiors that mirror the region’s jewel-coloured lakes and waterfalls through a palette of forest greens, emeralds, and icy blues.
The resort’s wellness offering, Rissai Spa, combines modern luxury with ancient Tibetan healing practises. Meanwhile, dining options include al fresco experiences by mountain streams and refined Sichuan cuisine at Cai Lin Xuan restaurant.
Located 88 kilometres from Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport (about 75 minutes by car), the property sits within the 72,000-hectare Jiuzhaigou Valley Scenic and Historic Interest Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This region home to some 140 bird species also, as well as a number of endangered plant and animal species, including the giant panda and the Sichuan takin.
“Rissai Valley is a truly magical place,” says Marcel Damen, general manager. “As the first Ritz-Carlton Reserve in China, we look forward to welcoming guests to experience the many curated experiences that connect them with the rich local culture.”
The opening marks the sixth property in the exclusive Ritz-Carlton Reserve portfolio worldwide.
