The Brazilian set up a previously struggling Mbappe for the opening goal and his first in a while in Butarque, as Carlo Ancelotti's men picked up a 3-0 win.
With two victories on the trot in the Spanish top flight, Madrid is recovering from a 4-0 drubbing in the Bernabeu from bitter rival FC Barcelona late last month and can now move within a point of the leader by beating Valencia in its game in hand over the Catalans.
To Real Madrid TV post-match, Mbappe stressed that, "I have a good relationship with Vini, with him and with all the Madrid players. We are ready to play many games together and win many titles."
"I started well, with rhythm with my teammates, in a different position. It's the story of my career, I play on the right, in the center, on the left ... I want to play well and score a lot of goals," he added.
Mbappe didn't get called up by France national team coach Didier Deschamps for November's UEFA Nations League fixtures, after likewise missing out in October.
Rather than leaving the Spanish capital, however, Mbappe stayed put this time and trained hard.
"It's very good for me to train with the boys [from the La Fabrica academy], [and those] from Castilla too. I didn't know many of them and they have a lot of quality. I'm physically well and ready to help the team," Mbappe said on this.
With Barca slipping up and blowing a 2-0 lead at Celta Vigo to draw 2-2 on Saturday night, it was vital for Madrid to come out winners at Leganes.
"We came here to win. We knew the importance of the match. We had to win after Barcelona's tie. We started well, with a good rhythm, having the ball, playing well... The first goal was very important," Mbappe explained.
Up next for Madrid is a team that ex-PSG forward Mbappe was once strongly linked to in Premier League leaders Liverpool, which it takes on in the Champions League at Anfield on Wednesday.
