Queenstown Airport reopens after bomb scare
Queenstown Airport has reopened after it was evacuated this morning amid a "potential bomb threat".
Police said there was "a report at around 8.40am of what appears to be an explosive device", prompting an evacuation of the terminal.
A Defence Force explosive ordnance disposal unit rushed to the airport to assess "what appears to be an explosive device", police said earlier this afternoon.
There were no flights in or out of the airport, and all inbound aircraft were diverted as police and aviation security responded.
However, the airport has now reopened after the Defence Force unit deemed the items "posed no threat".
"We would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding," the airport said on Facebook.
Passengers who had a confirmed flight reservation are being asked to come to the airport.
"If you have been impacted and do not have a confirmed booking, please contact your airline.
"Now that the police cordon has been lifted, those passengers needing to collect baggage or vehicles can do so."
During the earlier commotion, a member of the public told 1News that passengers had been moved to the parking lot and told to move further away from the terminal building.
