(WTGS) — Two Georgia congressmen are weighing in on the House's vote to authorize the impeachment inquiry of President Biden on Wednesday.

Representative Buddy Carter of Georgia's First District said three House committees have been looking into the financial dealings of President Joe Biden and his family.

He said those committees have reported the need to investigate further, and officially authorizing the impeachment inquiry gives them more power to do so.

"The inquiry will give these committees of jurisdiction the opportunity to subpoena the administration to subpoena the Biden family for records, and they will be forced to release those records," Carter said. "Right now, there's a little bit of pushback from them in releasing those records, so this will give us the opportunity to do that."

The representative from Georgia's Fourth District, Hank Johnson, said in a statement provided to Fox28 that the inquiry is a mere election tactic for House Republicans and that there are more pressing issues for Congress to focus on.

"The vote to formalize the sham Biden impeachment inquiry while at the same time refusing military assistance to Ukraine shows how far MAGA extremists will go to aid Donald Trump's re-election campaign," said Johnson.
