Unplanned power outage in central Auckland has left hundreds without power.
Shortly after 12.30pm, Nancy Po’oi, a receptionist at Auckland City’s Copthorne Hotel, said there had been no power for 40 minutes.
“We are barely managing. Our system is down, so we are unable to use computers.”

Vector invested in an artificial-intelligence tool in 2019 to forecast where storms would do damage (first published in 2019).
Po’oi said the electricity providers are “quite unsure” about when power would be restored.
Electricity company Vector said the outage was fully restored at around 1.15pm.
“We are still investigating the exact cause.”
Vector did not answer Stuff’s questions about how many homes were without power.
