Olympics schedule

Three-time Olympian Rebecca Henderson is the only Australian cyclist competing in mountain bike cycling at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Mountain bike cycling events at Paris 2024 are scheduled on July 28 and 29 while Henderson will be in action in the women’s cross-country event on July 28.

The 32-year-old Rebecca Henderson will join Lauren Reynolds, competing in BMX racing at Paris 2024, and two-time Olympic champion and former track cyclist Anna Meares as the only Australian women’s cyclists to compete at four different Olympics.

Having made her Olympic debut at London 2012, Henderson finished 24th overall while an injury prevented her from finishing at Rio 2016. At Tokyo 2020, she finished 28th in the women’s cross-country event after clocking 1:30.29.

Henderson is a two-time bronze medal winner at World Championships. She also finished third in the women’s cross-country race at the Commonwealth Games 2014 in Glasgow.

The mountain bike cycling events at Paris 2024 will be held at the Elancourt Hill in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines in Paris.

In the cross-country mountain bike event, riders set off from the same starting line and contest multiple laps around a loop on mountainous, rough terrain which tests their technique, endurance, and stamina. Races feature a mass start and, in general, multiple laps.

Mountain biking made its Olympic debut at the Atlanta 1996 Games, 100 years after track and road cycling were included in the Olympic programme. No Australian mountain biker has ever medalled at the Olympics.
