Veteran sports commentator Ken Laban says Penrith’s fourth championship in a row is a testament to the rise of the NRL as a competition and rugby league as a sport.

Last night’s Grand Final drew 80,156 fans to Accor Stadium, where Penrith defeated the minor premiers, the Melbourne Storm, 14-6.

Second-rower Liam Martin was awarded the Clive Churchill Medal for man of the match.

Mr. Laban say both teams have been ranked one and two so far this decade, with either team capable of winning.

“But you just always had that feeling with the Panthers, having been there and been successful three consecutive times before that, they were always going to be calm. They’re always going to take risks, and they were always going to play. You know, had that sense of class and composure about everything that they did. And in the end, it was good enough to win,” he says.

Ken Laban says the Panthers will need to adjust as several players move teams, including James Fisher-Harris going to the Warriors and five-eighth Jarome Luai joining Benji Marshall’s West Tigers.
