Goodnight

Well, that’s all from me, but what a night.

The Storm now have to rebuild for their week two finals match, but they’re likely to be playing without Ryan Papenhuyzen and Xavier Coates who both suffered lower leg injuries.

As for the Broncos, their performance was clinical, and now they get a week off to prepare for the preliminary finals.

If you want to read the full match report, you can find that here.

Otherwise, I’ll be back tomorrow to take you through both finals games. Until then, enjoy your night.

The Storm flyer is still being attended to by medical staff at Suncorp Stadium, but an ambulance is on the way to take him for scans.

After 384 days on the sideline with a shattered kneecap, that’s just devastating news.

Broncos break hoodoo to beat Storm 26-0

The Brisbane Broncos have broken a 14-year losing streak to the Storm at Suncorp Stadium with a comprehensive 26-0 victory on Friday night.

It was a massive performance from the home team, and Kevin Walters team have booked themselves a spot in the preliminary finals in two weeks time.

The Broncos were dominant for the full 80 minutes. Their defence was flawless and their attack agile.

Unfortunately for Craig Bellamy, not only does he have a number of things to fix in the Storm’s game next week, he also has injuries to both Xavier Coates and Ryan Papenhuyzen to deal with.

Broncos score as play restarts at Suncorp

As play restarts in Brisbane, the Broncos score another try.

It’s another brilliant play from Brisbane, but you can’t help but feel like this one isn’t relevant - even though it’s added points to the scoreboard.

The Papenhuyzen injury makes that moment a bit sour, and if the Storm were out of sorts earlier, they’re definitely thrown at the moment.

Papenhuyzen leaves field on stretcher

There might be almost 50,000 Broncos fans at Suncorp, but this Ryan Papenhuyzen injury has taken the air out of the stadium.

Not one fan or player would wish this injury on Papenhuyzen, and the Storm fullback has left the field on a stretcher to a standing ovation from the crowds.

Plenty of support from teammates and opposition alike, but at this point there’s nothing that can console him as he leaves the field in tears.

Coates limps off field as finish line nears for Broncos

Xavier Coates looked on is way to score for the Storm, but the ball is called forward.

That’s not the worst of it for Melbourne though, Coates is on the ground grabbing his ankle, and he looks in a bad way.

The Storm winger is limping off the field with the help of a trainer, and if he’s injured it’s a massive blow for Melbourne who look set for week two of finals next week.
