The third ODI between the Black Caps and Sri Lanka has been abandoned due to rain - maintaining the hosts whitewash with a 2-0 series victory.

New Zealand won the toss and made their most positive start of the series with Will Young and Henry Nicholls putting together an 88-run unbeaten stand for the second wicket after opener Tim Robinson was dismissed for nine.

Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Madushanka did his part to get the Kiwis off to a hot start - his two overs conceding 23 runs - and the visitors would have looked to kick on before the rain began falling.

The Black Caps now turn to a three-match home test series against England, beginning on 28 November at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
