GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -Colorado Mesa Junior Infielder Myah Arrieta stands alone atop the CMU Single-Season Homerun Record Books and broke an NCAA record for any division.

The Maverick infielder, and Central High School Alumni entered play with 20 home runs during the season, just one behind tying the program record of 21 set by Kelly Adams in 2001.

It didn’t take Arrieta long to tie the record, in game one of the Maverick’s doubleheaders against Charon State, Arrieta turned around a 1-0 pitch, taking it deep to left-center field for a two-run homer that put her team up 5-0. CMU won game one 7-2, extending their winning streak to 18 games in a row. However, their nine-game streak of winning via the run rule did come to an end.

That left all of game two for Arrieta to put her name at the top of the leaderboards.

Once again it didn’t take long.

This time in a 2-1 count in the bottom of the second, Arrieta crushed one out towards the center field bleachers for history, as the first Maverick player to hit 22 homeruns in a season, with fourteen games to go still.

The two-home run day also extended her home run streak to ten games in a row with a round-tripper. That breaks the NCAA record for any division of eight, she was tied with prior to Saturday’s doubleheader.

Arrieta is now just three home runs behind the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Time record of 25.

The Mavericks play two more against Chadron State Sunday, game one is scheduled to get underway after 11:00p.m.
