The NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Portland experienced some crazy moments from the start of the race that saw Kaulig Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen secured his maiden win in the series. The Kiwi, who is in his rookie season, pulled of an impressive performance from the start to secure the win with the help of a good re-start on the last lap.

But the highlight of the day was a wild Coyote that went lose on the track during the race. The camara spotted the animal out of no where running in the infield grass. The Coyote then proceeded to enter live track and cross it, running as fast as it could. It made its way to the grandstands and disappeared intro an area below the stands where fans were sitting.

The Fox race broadcasters from the booth made a lot of puns seeing the Coyote’s wild run and were thrilled to see it making the way across the track.

We got wildlife on the lose…that’s a pass though penalty, I think. The commentators were heard saying.

It’s not first time NASCAR fans have encountered wild animals during the races over the years. The groundhog at Mischigan in 2016, the Seagull in 1991 Daytona and the rabbit at Bristol in 2015 are some of the most memorable and hilarious animal encounters the sports has seen.

Shane van Gisbergen is over the moon after the Portland win

SVG came into the Xfinity Series with the hopes of fighting for the title while also putting himself in the right spot to learn everything there is about racing in the ovals before making the Cup move. With the Portland win, which is road course where he is expected to be contender, he can now approach the oval races with more freedom.

The relaxation and the excitement about securing his first NASCAR wins since the 2023 Chicago Street Race win was seen in post-race comments. He pointed out that it was really cool experience for him and he love the cars that yielded him the triumph.

What a day. It was really cool. We had some great racing. I need to get better on my restarts. It was just really cool racing. I love these cars. Shane van Gisbergen said.

SVG will now be hoping to build on the momentum they got from winning the race securing playoffs, in the coming events. He would be more dangerous in the upcoming Cup and Xfinity Road Course races this season.
