Ontario Investing $ 12826 for Major Sporting Events in Newmarket ...
Provincial investment will boost Newmarket economy and support Ontario’s athletes
NEWSDecember 20, 2024NEWMARKET – Dawn Gallagher Murphy, MPP for Newmarket – Aurora, announced today that the Ontario government is providing $12,826 to Speed Skating Ontario to support 2025 Short Track Canada Cup Junior Finals at Magna Centre in Newmarket on March 27-30, 2025.
This funding is provided through the Ontario Sport Hosting Program and is part of nearly $1.7 million that the Ministry of Sport is investing to support 27 national and international amateur sport events in communities across the province.

The Ontario Sport Hosting Program helps to attract national and international amateur sport events to the province by funding a variety of winter and summer sport competitions. It enables local communities to host these events by encouraging investment in local sport infrastructure, increasing tourism and economic activity.“The investment reinforces Ontario’s reputation as a top destination for amateur sporting events,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Sport. “This funding is another great example of our government’s work to maximize the economic impact of sport tourism for communities across Ontario, while helping our athletes train and compete here at home.”
More than 11,000 athletes from Canada and around the world will compete in these events, which are expected to generate over $25 million in economic activity.
Applications for the 2025-26 Ontario Sport Hosting Program – Intake I will be open from November 6, 2024, to January 13, 2025.
