. The work was done through Micronet Solutions with a project cost of Rs5 crore.

As per the data, the city has 1.78 lakh chambers on the sewer network.

The GIS mapping has also identified diameter of sewer pipelines ranging between 100mm and 900mm. “NSSCDCL will hand over the GIS mapping data to NMC's public health engineering department,” NSSCDCL CEO Prithviraj BP told TOI.

General manager (project) Rajesh Dufare said NSSCDCL is also going to help NMC with integration of its stormwater network and water network with the GIS sewer mapping. Now, zone engineers from PHE department will have an updated map of sewer network. They will look to address complaints related to sewer blockage using GIS maps. NMC will be able to identify issues even at household level. Any repair work or project to improve the infrastructure will be updated every month online.

Prior to the GIS mapping, NMC had data of around 1,700 km sewer network in the city limits. Currently, if there is an issue with sewer line, the public health engineering digs multiple spots to identify the problem area. Now, PHE engineers will look to address complaints related to sewer blockage using GIS maps. NMC will be able to identify issues even at household level. Any repair work or project to improve the infrastructure will be updated every month online. The mapping will also help other departments such as utility services companies to locate sewer lines located across the city. This will also aid in more accurate road cutting for civil works. The Lakadganj zone has 484km of sewer network, which is longest in the city, and maximum chambers at 27,535, followed by Ashi Nagar zone with 240.15km of sewer network and 24,015 chambers. As per the GIS data, at 139.95 km, Gandhibagh zone has the shortest sewer network and 11,483 chambers. Sources in PHE pointed out that complaints pertaining to sewer blockages have increased manifold in the last few years. The situation is grim in Laxmi Nagar zone and parts of Hanuman Nagar, Dhantoli and Gandhibagh zones, they said. We also published the following articles recently
