MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - The LPGA Amateur Golf Association’s Myrtle Beach chapter has grown to over 200 members since being founded last August.

Chapter president Jaime Costanzo said she struggled to find local women’s golf leagues when she moved to the area four years ago.

“There should be something for women. There’s plenty of men’s tournaments that go on here and I didn’t find the LPGA here,” said Costanzo.

Members range from those who have never picked up a club to those who have been playing for years.

Some of the goals of the LPGA Amateurs include teaching golf etiquette, setting up lessons with local pros and providing weekly league opportunities.

Costanzo said it’s more than just a place where you can learn to golf, it’s a place where you can learn to make friends.

Sherry Jude moved to Myrtle Beach around the same time the chapter started and said it was instrumental in making the Grand Strand feel like home.

“I have a new best friend that I didn’t have before,” said Jude. “Coming here my husband and I didn’t have anyone to golf with. One of the other league captains and I just connected really well. I just feel like every time I run a league on a Tuesday, my job is to make sure everybody has a good time.”

The ladies in the group also have the opportunity to volunteer with other golf-focused nonprofits in the area.

“Our ladies are really willing and eager to help them out with that. We love Project Golf. Then we have Carolina Adaptive Golf, they had their program down at TPC. We had 24 ladies go and jump in and help with this tournament,” said Costanzo. “It was fantastic and we’re always willing to go and help in the community.”

The chapter has a few upcoming events, including an etiquette class on Sunda.. They also have a Red, White, and Blue tournament and BBQ planned for July 3rd.

Costanzo said tournaments and events like these shouldn’t be intimidating, she just wants people to come out and give it a try.

“Give us a shot,” said Jude. “Come join us because you won’t be sad or uncomfortable with us, we’re a lot of fun and super nice and I say every day is a different day in golf.”

If you’re interested in any of the events or if you’re interested in joining you can reach out to Costanzo by email.
