Klay Thompson's teammates and coach want him back with the Golden State Warriors next season, according to ESPN's Kendra Andrews.

The Warriors lost a play-in game to the Sacramento Kings 118-94 Tuesday night in Thompson's final game before entering unrestricted free agency this offseason.

Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Steve Kerr all vouched for Thompson after he shot 0-for-10 from the field in the loss, according to Andrews.

"We need Klay back," head coach Steve Kerr said after the Warriors' elimination, per Andrews. "He's still got good years left. And I know I speak for everybody in the organization. We want him back."

Thompson has played 794 games for the Warriors since the team drafted him in 2011.

The zero-point effort, which marked the fifth time Thompson has been held without a point in his career, completed a reportedly difficult season for the Warriors guard.

Stalled negotiations over his next contract were "weighing on him," Andrews reported in November, as ongoing shooting slumps led to Thompson coming off the bench for the first time in his Warriors career.

Curry called the 2023-24 season a "hell of a year" for Thompson.

"Everyone is going to talk about one game, and I know he wanted to do better. We go through so much over 82 games, and the fact that he was able to turn his season around with a new role and adjusting... just really having fun playing basketball and being at peace out there with it all, I'm more worried about that," Curry said, per Andrews.

Contract talks between Thompson and the Warriors reportedly stalled before the season after the five-time All-Star turned down a two-year, $48 million extension offer, according to The Athletic's Zach Harper and Shams Charania.

It is possible Thompson balked in part due to the suggested pay cut after making $43.2 million during the 2023-24 season. He is looking for a deal that matches the trio of Kerr, Curry and Green, who are all locked in with the Warriors through at least 2026.

Despite last offseason's stalled negotiations, Green said he believes the Warriors and Thompson will be able to agree on a new contract this offseason, according to Andrews.

"I don't think there's any scenario where Klay leaves and that's the best decision for this team and organization," Green said, per Andrews. "[The organization] has shown nothing but respect, loyalty, love and trust. I've got no reason to think, oh man, they're not going to do right by Klay. I have no reason to think that our ownership group isn't going to take care of us the way we have taken care of this organization."

This postseason will mark the third time the Warriors have missed the playoffs during the Kerr and Curry era. The team has also won four NBA titles during that span.

The Warriors will look to run it back for another deep playoff run next season, although it's not yet clear whether Thompson will be part of that push.
