Katy Perry Breaks Silence On Dr. Luke Collab After ‘Woman’s World’

Katy Perry is finally spilling the tea! After months of silence, she’s opening up about her decision to team up with Dr. Luke for her comeback single “Woman’s World,” which dropped in July. On the latest episode of Call Her Daddy, Perry got real about why she chose to work with the producer Kesha accused of sexual assault back in 2014.

The singer admitted that the collab “started a lot of conversations.” She added, “He was one of many collaborators that I collaborated with,” referring to Dr. Luke, who also helped craft hits like “California Gurls” and “Teenage Dream.” Perry was quick to point out, “But the reality is, it comes from me. The truth is, I wrote these songs from my experience of my whole life going through this metamorphosis, and he was one of the people to help facilitate all that. One of the writers, one of the producers.”

Sharing more of her perspective, she said, “I am speaking from my own experience. When I speak about ‘Woman’s World,’ I speak about feeling so empowered now as a mother, as a woman, giving birth, creating life… I’m still a matriarch and feeling really grounded in that.” Perry added that she created the track with a variety of collaborators, including some from her Teenage Dream era.

The decision to work with Dr. Luke for “Woman’s World” raised eyebrows right before the single’s release. Critics were quick to question Perry’s choice, especially considering Dr. Luke’s long-running legal battle with Kesha. Kesha accused him of drugging and raping her at a 2005 party. He strongly denied that claim. He countered with a defamation lawsuit, which the two settled in 2023.

Some critics also found it ironic that “Woman’s World,” a song branded as an anthem for female empowerment, was produced and written mostly by men, with a male director for its music video. Dr. Luke even returned for Perry’s follow-up single, “Lifetimes,” which dropped on Aug. 8.

This candid interview arrives just weeks before Perry’s new album 143, set to release on Sept. 20. Along with music, Perry also shared sweet insights about her relationship with her husband Orlando Bloom and raising their 4-year-old daughter, Daisy. In a funny moment, she apologized to parents whose kids sang along to her cheeky track “Peacock” back in 2010. Because now, she’s dealing with the same thing with her own little one.

The interview took a wild turn when Katy Perry shared her love language: acts of service. “If I come downstairs and the kitchen is clean, and you’ve done it all,” Perry told host Alex Cooper, “and you’ve done all the dishes, and you’ve closed all the pantry doors, you better be ready to get your d— sucked,” she added, “I mean literally.”

She wasn’t done, doubling down with: “I don’t need a red Ferrari! I can buy a red Ferrari. Just do the f—ing dishes! I will suck your d—! It’s that easy.”
