The More FM DJ announced on Wednesday she would be leaving the business, saying she was "tired" and that radio had "come at a price" for her.

In an emotional announcement to Instagram, Feeney revealed she had had enough of the job, saying she was "low on fresh, creative ideas, and basically, I just need a big rest".

She also said she was prioritising her own mental health ahead of her career, adding: "One thing I've learned as I've got older, is how important mental health and clarity is. It's time I actually listened to what my inner self has been screaming at me for a while."

She hinted at how doing daily radio had opened herself up to scrutiny in the public eye, saying: "Preparing, sharing and hosting 4-5 hour shows every weekday, I have literally grown up on the radio, which is why you know so much about me! When you have four hours to fill, you end up having to talk about all the stuff going on in your life."

Feeney said she had no plans as to what she may do next, but first on her agenda was a three-week holiday to Bali.

"I do not know what I will do next. I have a few thoughts and ideas, but I'm yet to decide what will be my next 'thing'. So, I'm heading off on a 3-week adventure in Bali and when I come back, I will spend a bit more time finding myself again.

"I will keep you up to date regularly, so this isn't the end of me. It's just the end of me on the radio for now."

Feeney began her radio career when she was 17 years old, joining MediaWorks' Energy FM in New Plymouth.

The radio personality has often come under fire on social media throughout her career and has fought back against trolls via her radio show.

In June 2021, she opened up about being dubbed a "fat d**e" and accused of "bringing home a toy boy from South America".

Feeney dated an Algerian named Minou from 2018 to 2020, having met via mutual friends online. He was 28 years old when they split.

At the time, Feeney responded to the comments: "I get it, I'm in the public eye, so I'm fair game.

"We can all talk about people in the news and celebrities, it doesn't worry me. But I was just concerned that this kind of talk still goes on about people," she added.

Feeney's last day on air will be Friday, July 5.
