Set to chase a target of 267, rain played hide and seek for Pakistan during the Asia Cup 2023 one-day international against India in Pallekele on September 2, 2023.

After the inspection at 9 p.m, umpires said that the revised target under the DLS method for Pakistan will be 226 in 36 overs but once again rain started to pour.

Earlier, riding on brilliant half-centuries from Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan, India posted a total of 266 during the Asia Cup 2023 one-day international match against Pakistan in Pallekele on September 2.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, India made a sedate start with Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill playing it safe. But after the resumption of the game after two brief rain stoppages, India lost four quick wickets. Shaheen Shah Afridi accounted for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli while Haris Rauf dismissed Shubhman Gill and Shreyas Iyer.

After losing four wickets, Ishan Kishan (82) and Hardik Pandya (87) steadied the innings. With the dismissal of Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya, Pakistan bowlers controlled the game from going into India’s hands.

Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav brought some respect to Indian total after the quick dismissals of Kishan, Pandya and Shardul Thakur.

Haris Rauf (3 for 58), Nassam Shah (3 for 36) and Shaheen Shah Afridi (4 for 35) were the pick of Pakistani bowlers.

India set Pakistan a target of 267 in 50 overs.

India and Pakistan are playing against each other after a gap of nearly four years. This is the 14th encounter between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup.

After the toss, Rohit Sharma said the team has brought back Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah and added that the team is playing with two spinners of Kuldeep Yadav and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

In a surprise move, India had decided to go with Shardul Thakur instead of Mohammed Shami.

Pakistan is playing with an unchanged XI which they won against Nepal.
