India vs Afghanistan, T20 World Cup 2024 Highlights: Suryakumar Yadav scored 53 off 28 balls after which Jasprit Bumrah posted imperious figures of 3/7 as India beat Afghanistan by 47 runs to start off their Super 8 campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Earlier, Afghanistan's bowlers did not allow India to fly off to a strong start after Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first. Rohit fell to Fazalhaq Farooqi in the third over after which Rashid Khan dismissed Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli after the powerplay. Kohli was looking to play deep but ended up holing out at long-off on a run-a-ball 24.
Suryakumar took over after Kohli's dismissal and he eventually found a steady partner in Pandya. The latter eventually fell on 32 off 24 in the 18th over. India's bowlers then took over with Bumrah dismissing both of Afghanistan's openers in his first two overs. India had brought on an extra spinner in Kuldeep Yadav and the move reaped dividends with the Afghanistan batters being starved for runs in the middle overs. Afghanistan lost three wickets in the powerplay and the rest of the collapse came after the 10th over. Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets each. While Arshdeep gave 36 runs, Bumrah gave just seven in his four overs, an eye-watering economy of 1.75.
