Following closely behind is The Brutalist, with Pearce nominated in the Supporting Actor category, and his co-star Felicity Jones in Supporting Actress. The drama was also recognised in the Score and Screenplay categories, making up a total of 7 nods.

With six nominations is Conclave, starring Ralph Fiennes, who is up for Best Actor, while Isabella Rossellini received recognition as a supporting actress.

Meanwhile, Nicole Kidman has been recognised as a candidate for Best Actress (Drama) for her role in Babygirl, and Cate Blanchett in the same category, but for television, for Disclaimer.

On the TV side, The Bear is continuing its awards show domination, picking up the most nominations with five.

It’s up for Best Musical/Comedy, with recognition in the acting categories for several of its stars: Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Liza Cólon-Zayas.

Both Only Murders in the Building and Shōgun scored four nominations, and Baby Reindeer, Disclaimer and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story each named for three.

It’s among the most prestigious film and TV awards ceremonies in the entertainment industry, taking its place alongside the Oscars, the Emmys, the Screen Actors’ Guild Awards and the BAFTAs.

A win at the Globes in January will also bode well for prospects at the Academy Awards, which will be held two months later in early March.

It was announced in August that the 2025 ceremony, airing in Australia on January 6, will be hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, who said she was “absolutely thrilled”.

“It’s one of my favourite nights of television and now I get a front-row seat [actually, I think I have to host from the stage],” said Glaser.

“The Golden Globes is not only a huge night for TV and film, but also for comedy. It’s one of the few times that showbusiness not only allows, but encourages itself to be lovingly mocked [at least I hope so]. [God I hope so].

“It’s an exciting, yet challenging gig because it’s live, unpredictable, and in front of Hollywood’s biggest stars [who also might be getting wasted while seated next to their recent exes].”

The organisation behind the event, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, has been mired in controversy in recent years, after it emerged in 2021 that not one of its 87 judging members was black.

The 2022 ceremony was cancelled as the HFPA reformed, and the Globes returned in 2023 under new management.

Here are all the major nominations for 2024, announced by Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut in a livestreamed event.
