National League club Eastern Suburbs have appointed Shane Knowles as their new head of football.
Knowles (55) returns to the club where he started his coaching career and will oversee the development of women’s and men’s football across all age groups, including players and staff at Eastern Suburbs.
“We have some experts in the football profession at Eastern Suburbs and I am looking forward to work alongside them in creating pathways for both our players and coaches, ensuring they develop further to hit their full potential,” he told the club’s website.
After starting his coaching career at Suburbs, he moved to Lynn-Avon United, where he led their men’s side to a Lotto NRFL Men’s Premier title in 2009.
The following season, Knowles joined Bay Olympic, where he spent eight years as the director of football and won back-to-back league titles in 2011 and 2012.
In 2019, he was appointed the director of football at St Peter’s, Cambridge.
While in the Waikato, Knowles also coached at Northern League clubs Hamilton Wanderers and Melville United.
Knowles will return to Auckland to take up his new role with Suburbs in 2025.
