Fans hoping to see legendary tennis player Andy Murray one final time at Wimbledon have been dealt a huge blow with the news that his partner in the mixed doubles, Emma Raducanu, has had to withdraw from their game with a stiff wrist. It means that Murray has likely played his final game at Wimbledon having already been knocked out of the men's doubles and withdrawn from the singles.

Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her highly anticipated doubles match with Andy Murray at Wimbledon, citing a stiff wrist.

It almost certainly brings to an end Murray's career at Wimbledon, with the Scot having already bowed out of the men's singles, which he withdrew from due to injury, and men's doubles following defeat alongside brother Jamie, falling to Australian pair Rinky Hijikata and John Peers in straight sets.

He is expected to retire from tennis after the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, where he is entered in the men's singles draw as well as the men's doubles with Dan Evans.

In a statement published on the LTA website and social media, Raducanu, who is into the last 16 of the women's singles draw following a straight-sets victory over ninth seed Maria Sakkari, said: "Unfortunately I woke up with some stiffness in my right wrist this morning, so therefore I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles tonight.

“I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but got to take care."

Raducanu will face New Zealand qualifier Lulu Sun in the fourth round as she bids for a first quarter-final at the All England Club.

He answered questions from Sue Barker and thanked each member of his team and family, as well as reminisicing on his greatest memories from playing on the grass at SW19.

Those that could not make it in-person paid tributes to the Briton on social media, with Carlos Alcaraz, the defending Wimbledon champion, labelling Murray an "inspiration" and remarking "What a legacy", while Iga Swiatek, the top women's seed, thanked the Scot for "everything" - especially his support for women's tennis.
