Andy Murray was supposed to have at least one more match — maybe one more run — at Wimbledon.

He was slated to play mixed doubles with Emma Raducanu beginning Saturday night, but the former U.S. Open champion withdrew from the mixed event due to a sore wrist, effectively ending Murray’s career at Wimbledon.

Raducanu would have had to return Sunday for her fourth-round singles match against Lulu Sun, giving her very little time to recover in between matches.

“Yeah, I know. The scheduling of that was not ideal," Raducanu said ahead of her withdrawal. "I mean, it's just an amazing opportunity to be able to play with him. It's something that I'm going to cherish."

Murray, 37 and a three-time Grand Slam singles champion, withdrew from the singles ahead of Wimbledon but was still slated to play men’s doubles with his brother Jamie and mixed doubles.

The Murrays lost 7-6 (6), 6-4 in the first round of men’s doubles against Rinky Hijikata and John Peers on Friday.

But Andy Murray was still feted with a video tribute replete with messages from Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Venus Williams after the match. Djokovic, Martina Navratilova and John McEnroe also stood on Centre Court and applauded him after the match.

“The match itself, it was tough, physically. It was hard for me. ... I was fortunate I was even able to get on the court to play,” said Murray, who had surgery to remove a cyst from his spine less than two weeks ago.

“It was pretty emotional,” Murray, who twice won Wimbledon and also holds two Olympic gold medals, said about the postmatch tribute. “Watching the video was nice, but hard as well, for me. Because you know it’s coming to the end of something that you absolutely loved doing for such a long time. So that was difficult.”

Murray plans to retire after the Paris Olympics.

“I’m ready to finish playing,” Murray said, “because I can’t play to the level I want to anymore.”
