EVANS MILLS, New York (WWNY) - An Evans Mills man is accused of driving away with a vehicle he stole while the daughter of the owner was on the hood.

State police say the daughter tried to stop 44-year-old Gregory Hess from stealing the 2012 Chevrolet Impala from North Main Street in Evans Mills and ended up on the hood.

Hess allegedly swerved back and forth for a couple hundred yards before the daughter fell off, narrowly missing hitting her head on the pavement. She was treated for minor road rash at the scene.

Hess was charged with fourth degree grand larceny, first-degree reckless endangerment, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

He was arraigned and jailed on $3,000 cash bail.
