Insulin is good, just learn how to use it: Docs
Nagpur: The Diabetic
Association
of India, Nagpur chapter and the Association of
Physicians
of India,
Vidarbha Chapter
, jointly organized the highly anticipated ‘Insulin Summit’ on Sunday. Here, doctors cleared many common myths about
insulin
.
A most common myth is Insulin is only for people with severe diabetes. Whereas doctors said it depends upon individual’s condition. “People with type 1 diabetes always require insulin. However, people with type 2 diabetes may also need it if other treatments, are insufficient to control their blood sugar levels,” said Dr Himanshu Patil, Secretary of DAI.
“Need for insulin can arise due to various factors, including genetics and lifestyle. Requiring insulin does not imply failure. It is a crucial and effective tool for managing blood sugar levels and achieving optimal health,” said Dr Ajay Kaduskar, general physician.
“Some people believe that Insulin causes blindness and other severe complications. On the contrary, by effectively managing blood sugar levels, insulin can help prevent or delay the onset of diabetes-related complications, such as eye problems, kidney disease, and nerve damage,” DAI president Dr Prashant Gowardhan said.
