The Australian batter farewells test cricket as he guides his team towards their victory target.

David Warner got his dream ending as he guided Australia to victory over Pakistan in his test cricket farewell on his home ground in Sydney.

Playing his 112th test, Warner played a typically belligerent knock before he was out for 57 off 75 balls, lbw to Sajid Khan’s spin.

By that time the damage was done, as Australia cruised to their target of 130, to wrap up an eight-wicket win.

Warner had luck early and one lofted shot just cleared a fielder, but he charged on to pass 50 for the 63rd time in a test innings before an adoring SCG crowd who gave him a standing ovation as he departed.

As he walked off, Warner gifted his helmet and gloves to a lucky fan on the boundary.

His opening partner and childhood friend Usman Khawaja departed early for 0, but that was the only time Pakistan were in the contest defending such a low score.

David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne charge towards victory at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Warner now bids farewell to test and ODI cricket but will continue playing Twenty20 internationals, which means he will likely tour New Zealand to face the Black Caps next month.

Marnus Labuschagne was unbeaten on 62 as Australia cantered to a 3-0 series victory just after lunch on the fourth day of the third test.

“It's pretty much a dream come true,” Warner said on Fox Sports.

“You win a 3-0 and cap off what has been a great 18 months for the team.

"On the back of a World Test Championship win, Ashes draw and the World Cup, to come here and win 3-0 is a great achievement."

Warner had pulled out all the tricks to celebrate his retirement party, with an array of reverse-sweeps, bludgeoning cover drives and even an attempted reverse-scoop.

Warner was granted some luck on 16 when he almost chopped on, while Aamir Jamal dropped a very difficult chance at mid-off on 25 and he survived a near lbw call on 53.

David Warner of Australia acknowledges the crowd after being dismissed by Sajid Khan of Pakistan in his final innings.

“I started with Twenty20 and I tried to come out here and emulate that,” Warner said.

“I tried to play my shots, go out the way I like to play and managed to get the win on the board which is great.”

The runs came after Josh Hazlewood set up the win for Australia on Friday evening, before Pakistan were bowled out for 115 on the fourth morning.

After the tourists took a 15-run first-innings lead, Hazlewood (4-16) claimed a triple-wicket maiden late on day three to crush Pakistan's hopes.

Pakistan were able to offer a brief resistance on Saturday morning, with Mohammad Rizwan (28) and Aamir (18) putting on 42 for the eighth wicket.

But when Nathan Lyon had Rizwan caught at leg slip, Pakistan folded quickly.

Pat Cummins added the scalp of Aamir to his first-innings five-wicket haul to make it 19 for the series, before Lyon (3-36) bowled Hasan to have Pakistan all out.

The win cements Australia's newly crowned status as the world's No 1-ranked test team, with two tests against West Indies still to come later in January.
